Products, Services, Advocacy, Programs: Education, Outreach, Support & Awareness

Products: We provide you with medically reviewed materials.

We publish evidence/expert based literature Iron Disorders Institute (IDI) “Guide To” series is a set of handouts (printed or web-based downloadable pamphlets, fact sheets, booklets) with introductory information on one of four categories of iron disorders: iron deficiency anemia, anemia of chronic disease, iron overload with anemia, and hemochromatosis/iron overload. These handouts contain basic information designed to capture the attention of a person who may be at risk but may not yet be diagnosed. A Physician Reference Charts accompanies the “Guide To” handout. These reference guides are reviewed by IDI’s Medical & Scientific Advisory Board to assure content is current and practical for clinicians. Pages are devoted to At-a-Glance charts that compare iron disorders, show reference ranges for serum ferritin and hemoglobin; other pages include a diagnosis algorithm, treatment options, genetics and diet.  IDI mails these charts to physicians or patients who carry them to their healthcare providers. IDI has four full-length books for patients and healthcare professionals: The Guide to Hemochromatosis, The Hemochromatosis Cookbook, The Guide to Anemia, and Exposing the Hidden Dangers of Iron. Forms—our record-keeping Personal Health Profile Form helps patients consolidate data and information. Our newsletter (nanograms) and periodic reports (idInsight) detail iron health status and news. IDI’s websites keep information current with daily, weekly, and monthly updates.

Services: We help direct you to resources

The IDI provides outreach assistance connecting patients with health-care providers, health-care professionals with experts, and physicians with the most current best practices. We direct patients and healthcare professionals to other resources that can address a specific disease. The IDI offers online discussion and forums for both patients and health-care providers and a toll-free number to request information.  The IDI also maintains a patient and physician registry. We invite you to join our registry.

Advocacy: We keep policy and law makers informed

The IDI advocates for patients by ensuring that iron disorders such as hemochromatosis, iron deficiency anemia, anemia of inflammatory response, iron overload (with or without anemia)  remain a health priority among health-care policy and law makers. The IDI organizes efforts to reach policy and law makers and keep them apprised of our critical issues and needs and to assure that policy and laws are enacted and enforced for adequate protection against discrimination, funding for access to decent care, targeted research, education, outreach and support.

Programs: We promote iron disorders and educate the public about Iron-Out-of-Balance™

In the United States, The IDI carries out health promotion and education programs in partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, The Veteran’s Administration as well as community based organizations whose mission’s are compatible.  IDI works also with international groups and participates in a free exchange of information and use of educational materials.

Awareness: We inform those who do not know and share with those who do.

We reach the unsuspecting public at risk through media campaigns, speaking engagements, iron screenings, regional conferences and local health fairs. At focus groups and regional conferences we discuss issues such as barriers, emerging science and news. Most of our literature is free to the public. We also help other organizations through verbal exchanges and making PDF versions of our literature: availabel online. Some examples of the literature that we share are our Physician Reference Charts, Informational Handouts, Articles. We also write books that are redily available through major bookstores or online.
