What You Can Do...
1.) Ask your hospital to consider "Test of the Month." Hospitals can offer the iron panel (serum iron, TIBC, and serum ferritin) at a reduced charge.
For a printable page of the iron tests click here.
2: Contact a local business to purchase a case of books: Iron Disorders Institute Guide to Hemochromatosis. You can also purchase a
case yourself.
Each case contains 32 books and for a limited time IDI is offering a major discount for a case purchase
of $285 which includes ground shipping. To order a case: go to the iron store
and place your order.
Each case includes an inside jacket
sticker with the name of the business: This book compliments of....Volunteers can take the
books to the local public libraries.
3: Contact your local Wal-Mart manager. Request that they carry these books. You might do this in writing explaining that you live in this community and that you have HHC. Tell the manager that HHC is inherited and common and that Wal-Mart in some local markets is already an Iron Disorders Institute Community Partner. Also add that often, Wal-Mart is the only bookstore available to patients, especially in remote areas.
4: Ask for a July Awareness Package to be sent to you and take the information to your doctor's office: ask to speak with the
office manager. Explain that you are a HHC patient. Give them the pamphlet and the flyer that
tells them how to get FREE CME credits. To get a supply of pamphlets fill out the online form.
5: If you have HHC, call or write all your relatives.
You might save their lives.
6: Become a contributor and help IDI carry out its mission: To reduce pain, suffering and unnecessary death due to disorders of iron through awareness, education and research, contribute now!
