Please consider screening for this potentially fatal condition by checking serum iron levels on your patients. If elevated, refer to the diagnosis algorithm in the guidelines provided for additional tests and treatment. Hemochromatosis is common; one in 250 has the genetic makeup for this condition, which can be fatal if not detected early and treated.
